UC Davis Announces Release of 5 Strawberry Varieties
18-Apr-23

The Strawberry Breeding Program at the University of California, Davis has released five new strawberry cultivars bred for resistance to Fusarium wilt, high yields, and improved fruit quality. The full story is available in this UC Davis Press Release.

California nurseries with agreements through the Office of Research Strawberry Licensing Program will be able to purchase limited quantities of the new cultivars this spring through the FPS Strawberry Program. Orders can also be placed before the July 15 deadline for delivery in Spring 2024. Distribution is limited to California nurseries for the first two years; in 2025 the new cultivars will be available outside of California.

To make room for the new releases, FPS has evaluated the cultivars in the FPS Strawberry Program and are discontinuing the seven listed below:
Aromas, Oso Grande, and Diamante have been discontinued, and are no longer available from FPS as of April 2023.
Chandler, Camarosa, Gaviota, and Seascape will be discontinued after the 2024 distribution period. These four cultivars can be ordered before the July 15 deadline for their last distribution in Spring 2024.
