After basic index testing, the selection was planted in the old foundation vineyard in 1961 as Grenache FPS 01A. The name of the selection was changed in 2002 from Grenache to Grenache noir to distinguish Grenache noir from the white and grey forms of Grenache. Grenache noir 01A underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy at FPS in 2011 to qualify for the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard as Grenache noir 01A.1. |

The vines at the former station were rediscovered at that time by Dr. Austin Goheen. After basic index testing, the original material was planted in the foundation vineyard in 1966 as Grenache 03. The name was changed in 2002 from Grenache to Grenache noir to distinguish Grenache noir from the red and grey forms of Grenache. Grenache noir 03 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2011 in order to qualify for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2013 and will be planted at Russell Ranch as Grenache noir 03.1. |

The name was changed in 2002 from Grenache to Grenache noir to distinguish Grenache noir from the red and grey forms of Grenache. Grenache noir 04 underwent microshoot tip tissue culture therapy in 2011 to qualify for planting in the Russell Ranch Foundation Vineyard. The treated material successfully completed testing in 2013 and will be planted at Russell Ranch as Grenache noir 04.1. Grenache noir 04 is distributed by Rauscedo licensees in the United States, including Novavine Grapevine Nursery. |
