Decorative Strawberry picture

All Strawberry cultivars at FPS are tested annually for the listed pathogens by the listed methods.
PCR = polymerase chain reaction.

Laboratory Tests Performed on Strawberry Plants

Pathogen Pathogen Type Detection Method
Apple mosaic virus (ApMV) Virus PCR
Arabis mosaic virus (ArMV) Virus PCR
Phytoplasma diseases (Phyto) PCR
Strawberry crinkle virus (SCV) Virus PCR
Strawberry latent ringspot Virus (SLRSV) Virus PCR
Strawberry mild yellow edge virus (SMYEV) Virus PCR
Strawberry mottle virus (SMoV) Virus PCR
Strawberry necrotic shock virus (SNSV) Virus PCR
Strawberry pallidosis-associated virus (SPaV) Virus PCR
Strawberry vein banding virus (SVBV) Virus PCR
Xanthomonas fragariae (Xanth) Bacterium PCR

Biological Tests and Pathogen Inspections Performed on Strawberry Plants

Herbaceous host index is done by sap inoculation onto: Chenopodium amaranticolor, C. quinoa, Cucumis sativus and Nicotiana clevelandii.

Leaf graft index is done by wedge graft onto Fragaria vesca x F. virginiana clone UC 4; F. vesca x F. chiloensis x F. virginiana clone UC5; and F. virginiana clone UC 10 or UC 11. (Converse, 1987).

Pathogen Pathogen Type Detection Method
Aphelenchoides besseyi (Strawberry Crimp Nematode) Nematode Visual Inspection
Phytophthora fragariae var. fragariae (Red Stele Root Rot) Fungus Visual Inspection
Raspberry ringspot Virus (RpRSV) Virus Herbaceous
Strawberry feather leaf Virus (SFLV) Virus Leaf Graft Index
Strawberry Latent C Virus (SLCV) Virus Leaf Graft Index
Tobacco Necrosis Virus (TNV) Virus Herbaceous
Tobacco Streak Virus (TSV) Virus Leaf Graft Index
Tomato black ring virus (TBRV) Virus Herbaceous
Tomato bushy stunt Virus (TBSV) Virus Herbaceous
Tomato ringspot virus (ToRSV) Virus Herbaceous
